Photographic Skills

Which of the following photographic features/equipment have you used on a camera before:

Manual Focus features	y		I use this frequently throughout media. I have used this for the picture in my induction project. I have uploaded this to my blog.
Shutter Speed	y		I have used this in the photography skills development , this can be found on my blog. It helped me capture movement in my images and helped me capture models jumping and moving in motion.
Aperture control	y		This shows a controlling of aperture and this is where the subject is the only thing in focus , I learned how to do this in photography skills development , this was the lesson when we took pictures of props such teddy bears and clocks and this can be found on my blog.
Continuous shoot	y		This allowed me to take pictures of fast moving images such as blowing bubbles and bubble gum , and this again can be found on my blog.
A tripod	y		I used this too take some of the pictures for my aperture as this was a steady stand for my picture taking.
External flash	y		I used this in my photo shoot, this gave me extra light within a controlled area.
Self timer facility		n

Composition grids	y		I used composition grids for taking pictures using the rule of three when controlling eye line in the images. This can be shown in my pictures as I have to control the eye line on most images. Pictures like this can be found on my blog.

Photoshop Skills

Text control	y		Text control is they controlling of text on Photoshop, and example of this is when creating headlines and sell lines on my front cover I can then move them into position. An example can be found on my blog as my design for my front cover.
Filters	y		This is where you can change the look and effects on an image , this can be found on my blog as it was the week where we made the images look vintage.
Brushes	y		I used brushes to create my CD front cover. The brushes can come in various different shapes and styles to help you create certain looks. I used nature ones such as leaves and trees to create a natural look to my front cover.
Layers	y		Layers are used in most work in photoshop , this allows you to build up and create the image. I used this to create so many different products such as my cd cover but my highest level of work with layers is in my end product for unit 3 where I used it to create my magazine front cover.
Opacity control	y		When putting an affect on an image you need to control the opacity , this determines how strong or how weak it looks. I used this in numerous amounts of pictures such as the lesson where I edited 3 pictures to create different effect upon them which can be found on my blog.
Shape creation	y		This creates shapes and I used this to create a cell button for the front cover of my magazine. I used it to make the circular shape in which the price of my magazine went into to make it look more like the magazine glamour which I was trying to do.
Brightness and contrast control	y		When editing pictures changing the brightness and contrast makes it look better I used this in the pictures for my double page spread and the lesson which we edited 3 images in different styles such as vingetting and this allowed me to create it darker or lighter.
Gradients		n
Load selection features			I used this to load texts and images , I feel that I have become confident.
Feathering	y		I used this whilst vignetting my pictures to make sure that the vignette blended well and it was unnoticeable when on the image. This I feel after editing my pictures I am now confident.
Colour curves adjustment	y		I used this to make some images look old fashioned, to do this I altered the gradients and the colours blue , green and red to make a tinge upon the image. I feel that I would be good at doing this if I had the chance again.
Resolution setting control	y		This is used when setting up photoshop as resolution can differ on the size , type or product that your trying to create.
Magnetic lasso, polygon lasso tool	y		I used this to go round the outside of my dps images and other images in which I created a vingetting look as the magnetic lasso tool let me inverse and darkern the outside using the brightness and contrast. I also used to it to create the vampire teeth on the vampire editing image.
Cropping tool	y		I used this to crop the shape which were to big , this can help me create focal point in my images and make them more to the shape that I am wanting.
Clone tool		n
Retouch tool	y		I used the clone tool on when editing the girl who had acne , the tool allows you to take a sample from just near a spot and when covering it over it makes it look like it has gone.

In Design Skills

Margin and column guide creation	y		I used this for my double page spread this created a margin in which I knew where to place the rest of my columns and it helped me shape the layout of my dps.
Inserting an image ID	y		I used this it insert the images which I had previously edited in photoshop to place the picture in for my main picture for my dps as well as the smaller images used in my break out box.
Resizing images in ID	y		I used this for my pictures in my break out box , I had to makes sure that although I was resizing them they had to remain in shape and still look good without stretching.
Text manipulation – resizing, rotation	y		I used this to resize my header and kicker which was being inserted into my double page spread. This allowed me to make it the size and shape that I wanted.
Text manipulation – controlling kerning and leading	n
Text flow creation	y		In my article I used this when I inserted my text , this made the text fit into the columns and flow between them all.
Using transparent imagery in ID	y		I used this when creating my header for my dps spread I had to make sure that the background was transparent so that when I inserted into my dps it would fit without a being noticed to it.
Shape/line creation In design	y		I used this to create the break out box shape which is in my double page spread, this allowed my to make the shape I wanted and move it easily within my double page spread.
Exporting to PDF from In-design	y		I used this when I had finished my product I had to hand it in for my final assessment. Once I was taught how to do this I could confidently use it again.
